Which one would you rather be: Ambitious or Passionate?

These past months I have been watching a lot of figure skating and ice dancing videos on Youtube (blame Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir) and seeing these athletes putting all of their energy, heart, and soul on the ice for gold medals is something that I found admirable.

After obsessively watching those videos, I had a thought...

What do you think drove them to be an athlete?

Are they ambitious or passionate?

am· bi· tious
adjective

Having or showing a strong desire and determination to succeed.

pas· sion· ate
adjective

Showing or caused by strong feelings or a strong belief.

After spending my time google-ing any characteristic or traits that these people have,

I came to a conclusion, and to put it simply,

If they were driven by their desire to win the gold, then they are ambitious.

But, if they were driven by their need to make themselves feel complete and because there is nothing in this world that could offer the same feeling they have when they were on the ice, skating, then they are passionate.

In other words, ambitious people often get motivated by external things, while passionate people by internal things. There are no better one, they both are great traits to have. In fact, these two complement each other. While passionate people really love what they are doing, there might be times when they find themselves have no power to do it, that's when you need ambitious people to lift them up and remind them of their goal. When ambitious people get too obsessed with the reward they will get, passionate people could remind them of the importance of letting go of their high expectations.

And how incredible it would be to have two of those qualities in your daily life?
